It’s nominally a Game Boy adaptation of Donkey Kong Country for the SNES, but the game actually has a slightly different story, changes to enemies, and some entire levels that aren’t in Country . The main reason why I love Donkey Kong Land — and, while we’re here, Donkey Kong Land 2 and 3 , which will probably be on Nintendo Switch Online soon at the rate these retro games are getting added — is the way that the Donkey Kong Country soundtrack got adapted for the Game Boy’s sound chip. The rearrangements of these classic catchy songs are very impressive; you can get a taste of the sound in the trailer that’s in Nintendo’s post on X announcing the game’s addition to Switch Online. No shade to the SNES but I simply prefer the Game Boy’s sound. I used to pause this game just to listen to specific tracks. The original Donkey Kong Country trilogy is also already on Nintendo Switch Online, by the way, so you can really dive deep into the DK catalogue if that’s your thing. Kennedy was assassinated , conspiracy theories still swirl and any new glimpse into the fateful day of Nov. 22, 1963, in Dallas continues to fascinate . Related Articles President-elect Donald Trump promised during his reelection campaign that he would declassify all of the remaining government records surrounding the assassination if he returned to office. He made a similar pledge during his first term, but ultimately bended to appeals from the CIA and FBI to keep some documents withheld. At this point, only a few thousand of the millions of governmental records related to the assassination have yet to be fully released, and those who have studied the records released so far say that even if the remaining files are declassified, the public shouldn’t anticipate any earth-shattering revelations. “Anybody waiting for a smoking gun that’s going to turn this case upside down will be sorely disappointed,” said Gerald Posner, author of “Case Closed,” which concludes that assassin Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. Friday’s 61st anniversary is expected to be marked with a moment of silence at 12:30 p.m. in Dealey Plaza, where Kennedy’s motorcade was passing through when he was fatally shot. And throughout this week there have been events marking the anniversary. When Air Force One carrying Kennedy and first lady Jacqueline Kennedy touched down in Dallas , they were greeted by a clear sky and enthusiastic crowds. With a reelection campaign on the horizon the next year, they had gone to Texas on political fence-mending trip. But as the motorcade was finishing its parade route downtown, shots rang out from the Texas School Book Depository building. A year after the assassination, the Warren Commission, which President Lyndon B. Johnson established to investigate the assassination, concluded that Oswald acted alone and there was no evidence of a conspiracy. But that hasn’t quelled a web of alternative theories over the decades. In the early 1990s, the federal government mandated that all assassination-related documents be housed in a single collection in the National Archives and Records Administration. The collection of over 5 million records was required to be opened by 2017, barring any exemptions designated by the president. Trump, who took office for his first term in 2017, had boasted that he’d allow the release of all of the remaining records but ended up holding some back because of what he called the potential harm to national security. And while files have continued to be released during President Joe Biden’s administration, some still remain unseen. Of those documents, some are still completely redacted while others just have small redactions, like someone’s Social Security number. There are about 500 documents where all the information is redacted, Posner said, and those include Oswald’s and Ruby’s tax returns. “If you have been following it, as I have and others have, you sort of are zeroed in on the pages you think might provide some additional information for history,” Posner said. WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Rep. Matt Gaetz said Friday that he will not be returning to Congress after withdrawing his name from consideration to be attorney general under President-elect Donald Trump amid growing allegations of sexual misconduct. “I’m still going to be in the fight, but it’s going to be from a new perch. I do not intend to join the 119th Congress,” Gaetz told conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, adding that he has “some other goals in life that I’m eager to pursue with my wife and my family.” The announcement comes a day after Gaetz, a Florida Republican, stepped aside from the Cabinet nomination process amid growing fallout from federal and House Ethics investigations that cast doubt on his ability to be confirmed as the nation’s chief federal law enforcement officer. The 42-year-old has vehemently denied the allegations against him. Gaetz's nomination as attorney general had stunned many career lawyers inside the Justice Department, but reflected Trump's desire to place a loyalist in a department he has marked for retribution following the criminal cases against him. Hours after Gaetz withdrew, Trump nominated Pam Bondi, the former Florida attorney general, who would come to the job with years of legal work under her belt and that other trait Trump prizes above all: loyalty. It's unclear what's next for Gaetz, who is no longer a member of the House. He surprised colleagues by resigning from Congress the same day that Trump nominated him for attorney general. Some speculated he could still be sworn into office for another two-year term on Jan. 3, given that he had just won reelection earlier this month. In her first major policy speech since being elected, she chose to tackle that most thorny of political issues, mass migration – and she did not disappoint. In a barnstorming but measured performance, Badenoch delivered an address that I suspect a swathe of the electorate have been waiting for: a firm acknowledgment that mass migration into the UK has failed, that the current system is broken and that a new approach is desperately needed. Can anyone of a fair mind disagree? It was noteworthy, too, that Badenoch delivered her diagnosis not with hyperbolic bluster, but with a calm certainty that she was speaking good sense. The Conservatives, of course, have failed to deliver on this issue in recent years – which in large part accounted for their woeful performance at the election. Badenoch was frank about this, saying: ‘On behalf of the Conservative Party, it is right that I, as the new leader, accept responsibility and say truthfully we got it wrong.’ The Tories’ inability to control immigration – both legal and illegal – in government was the overwhelming reason why so many voters opted for Nigel Farage ’s Reform UK outfit, which took 4.1 million votes to the Tories’ 6.8 million. It may still be seen as a pantomime party by some, but Reform has made it clear that it has May’s council elections in sight. This speech – and not before time – was the first indication that Badenoch is willing to take Farage head on in the one area in which he has the most obvious pull. While some of Trump’s language on this subject was overblown and offensive – not least when he suggested that Haitians in Ohio were eating pet cats and dogs – his central message palpably hit home, as his victory proved. Badenoch’s brave speech, unlike The Donald’s bombast, bore the stamp of someone willing to grapple with a profoundly difficult problem in a serious way. Vitally, in an arena so often freighted with accusations of xenophobia and racism, she called for an honest cost-benefit analysis of the immigration crisis. She also said she would be willing to leave the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) – a treaty that has repeatedly stripped our country of its autonomy when it comes to deporting illegal migrants. However, she recognised that this dramatic step would not be easily achieved and would bring its own issues, all of which deserved due consideration. The truth, as Badenoch admitted, is that successive political leaders from all parties have shown a ‘collective failure’ to deal with this issue. One government after another has campaigned on a promise to cut mass migration – but the numbers have continued to soar. These vague and airy promises have continued under Keir Starmer, who has pledged to ‘smash the gangs’ of people-smugglers shipping migrants across the Channel. And when it comes to mass legal migration, Badenoch was equally right to accept that many Britons are sick and tired of being repeatedly told that hundreds of thousands of people coming here somehow all benefit the host country. The Left endlessly insist that mass migration is a catalyst for economic growth, and that only migrants are willing to clean our hospitals and offices, as well as care for our elderly – with many native Britons refusing to do so. There may be some truth to this, but these same champions of open borders invariably neglect to mention the associated costs: the near-intolerable strain on our healthcare system, our schools, our housing, as well as our GP surgeries, police, welfare and social services. While social cohesion is more difficult to quantify, we do not need a spreadsheet to tell us this too has been placed under desperate stress, with many areas of the country transformed out of all recognition, and many migrants manifestly failing to assimilate. That is why Badenoch’s reference to integration and its impossibility under current conditions was so key. As she – herself a first-generation Nigerian migrant – neatly put it, ‘numbers matter, but culture matters more’. My colleagues and I at the Henry Jackson Society think-tank have been recommending policies in this area for years: including a hard cap on migration that is based on quantifiable criteria and the removal of many current incentives for migrants, not least access to benefits. A group of migrants are seen shortly after setting off on the perilous journey across the Channel Badenoch flagged these as among her plans, as well as proposing specific visas to meet employers’ needs and qualification requirements placed on the migrants themselves. Of course, there is time for her proposals to be fully fleshed out and analysed. For now we should be thankful that after so many years in which there has been a vast gulf between political rhetoric and public feeling, the Tory leader is willing to tackle the subject. The proof will be in the detail – and, she must hope, in the delivery. But many Britons, ofall political stripes, will be looking at what she said – and finding there was much with which they agreed. Wesmen’s rise a bit of a surpriseDonald Trump says he is selecting venture capitalist David Sacks of Craft Ventures LLC to serve as his artificial intelligence and crypto czar, a newly created position that underscores the president-elect’s intent to boost two rapidly developing industries. “David will guide policy for the Administration in Artificial Intelligence and Cryptocurrency, two areas critical to the future of American competitiveness. David will focus on making America the clear global leader in both areas,” Trump said Thursday in a post on his Truth Social network. Trump said that Sacks would also lead the Presidential Council of Advisors for Science and Technology. Related Articles In Sacks, Trump is tapping one of his most prominent Silicon Valley supporters and fundraisers for a prime position in his administration. Sacks played a key role in bolstering Trump’s fundraising among technology industry donors, including co-hosting an event at his San Francisco home in June, with tickets at $300,000 a head. He is also closely associated with Vice President-elect JD Vance, the investor-turned-Ohio senator. Sacks is a venture capitalist and part of Silicon Valley’s “PayPal Mafia.” He first made his name in the technology industry during a stint as the chief operating officer of PayPal, the payments company whose founders in the late 1990s included billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk and investor Peter Thiel. After it was sold to eBay, Sacks turned to Hollywood, where he produced the 2005 satire Thank You for Smoking. Back in Silicon Valley, he founded workplace communications company Yammer, which was bought by Microsoft Corp. in 2012 for $1.2 billion. He founded his own venture capital firm, Craft Ventures, in 2017 and has invested in Musk-owned businesses, including SpaceX. Sacks said on a recent episode of his All-In podcast that a “key man” clause in the agreements of his venture firm’s legal documents would likely prevent him from taking a full-time position, but he might consider an advisory role in the new administration. A Craft spokeswoman said Sacks would not be leaving Craft. In his post, Trump said Sacks “will safeguard Free Speech online, and steer us away from Big Tech bias and censorship.” Protecting free speech is a keen interest of Sacks. He regularly speaks about “woke” interests that try to muzzle unpopular opinions and positions. The new post is expected to help spearhead the crypto industry deregulation Trump promised on the campaign trail. The role is expected to provide cryptocurrency advocates a direct line to the White House and serve as a liaison between Trump, Congress and the federal agencies that interface with digital assets, including the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Trump heavily campaigned on supporting crypto, after previously disparaging digital assets during his first White House term, saying their “value is highly volatile and based on thin air.” The president-elect on Thursday said Sacks would “work on a legal framework so the Crypto industry has the clarity it has been asking for, and can thrive in the U.S.” During the campaign, Trump spoke at a Bitcoin conference, accepted crypto campaign donations and met with executives from Bitcoin mining companies and crypto exchanges multiple times. Trump’s desire to give priority to the digital asset industry is also reflected in his close allies and cabinet selections, including his Commerce secretary pick, Howard Lutnick, and Treasury secretary nominee Scott Bessent. On the AI front, Sacks would help Trump put his imprint on an emerging technology whose popular use has exploded in recent years. Sacks is poised to be at the front lines in determining how the federal government both adopts AI and regulates its use as advances in the technology and adoption by consumers pose a wide array of benefits as well as risks touching on national security, privacy, jobs and other areas. The president-elect has expressed both awe at the power of AI technology as well as concern over the potential harms from its use. During his first term, he signed executive orders that sought to maintain US leadership in the field and directed the federal government to prioritize AI in research and development spending. As AI has become more mainstream in recent years and with Congress slow to act, President Joe Biden has sought to fill that void. Biden signed an executive order in 2023 that establishes security and privacy protections and requires developers to safety-test new models, casting the sweeping regulatory order as necessary to safeguard consumers. A number of technology giants have also agreed to adopt a set of voluntary safeguards which call for them to test AI systems for discriminatory tendencies or security flaws and to share those results. Trump has vowed to repeal Biden’s order. The Republican Party’s 2024 platform dismissed Biden’s executive order as one that “hinders AI Innovation, and imposes Radical Leftwing ideas on the development of this technology.” Sacks can be expected to work closely with Musk, the world’s richest person and one of the president-elect’s most prominent supporters. Musk is also a player in the AI space with his company xAI and a chatbot named Grok — efforts which pit him against Silicon Valley’s giants — and he stands to wield significant influence within the incoming administration. The appointment won’t require Sacks to divest or publicly disclose his assets. Like Musk, Sacks will be a special government employee. He can serve a maximum of 130 days per year, with or without compensation. However, conflict of interest rules apply to special government employees, meaning Sacks will have to recuse himself from matters that could impact his holdings. Sacks’s Craft Ventures is known more for enterprise software investing than for crypto, but it has made a few crypto investments, including BitGo and Bitwise. Still, Sacks has firm opinions on the sector. Speaking last month on All-In, Sacks praised a bill on crypto regulation that had passed in the U.S. House but not the Senate earlier this year. The Financial Innovation and Technology for the 21st Century Act would regulate certain types of digital assets as a commodity, regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. “The crypto industry basically wants a really clear line for knowing when they’re a commodity and they want commodities to be governed, like all other commodities, by the CFTC,” he said on the November podcast. WASHINGTON, Nov 22 (Reuters) - As he sought to overturn his 2020 election loss, Donald Trump considered firing the leadership of the Justice Department and installing a loyalist who would echo his false claims of fraud. As he prepares to return to the White House, Trump is pushing to install an attorney general who supported him in that effort. Pam Bondi, Trump's pick for attorney general, said Trump had won the battleground state of Pennsylvania as votes were still being counted, and implied fraud was taking place. "We do have evidence of cheating," Bondi said on Fox News , opens new tab on Nov. 5, 2020, two days after the election, citing ballots allegedly being "dumped" and mailed to dead people. "We are not going anywhere until they declare that we won Pennsylvania," she said. Trump would go on to lose the state, and the election. No evidence has emerged to support his claims of widespread fraud. If confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as the nation's top law enforcement officer, Bondi, 59, would oversee the Justice Department's efforts to combat election fraud, campaign finance violations, public corruption and to protect Americans' voting rights. Some former prosecutors question whether she would be willing to push back if Trump asks her to launch investigations based on flimsy claims. "I think being an election denier should be disqualifying for anyone to be attorney general," said Randall Eliason, a former federal prosecutor. Trump's transition team did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Both Trump's former Attorney General Bill Barr and his deputy, Jeffrey Rosen, refused his demands to pursue voter fraud investigations in 2020. Jeffrey Clark, a former top Justice Department lawyer, later tried to convince Trump to appoint him as acting attorney general to launch voter fraud probes. Trump declined to do so after other senior department leaders threatened to resign in protest. Bondi has not faced any legal repercussions for her involvement in the effort to advance Trump's false narrative of a stolen election, unlike others who have faced prosecution or disbarment, and her name only came up once in the 845-page report by the Democratic-led U.S. House congressional committee that investigated the scheme. Since serving as Florida attorney general from 2011-2019, she has emerged as one of Trump's most vocal defenders. She was a member of Trump's legal team during his first impeachment trial, when he stood accused of threatening to withhold military aid from Ukraine unless it agreed to launch a corruption probe into Trump's Democratic rival, now President Joe Biden. Bondi is a partner at Ballard Partners, a lobbying firm with close ties to Trump that once also employed his new incoming chief of staff, Susie Wiles. She also leads the litigation arm of the America First Policy Institute, a right-leaning think tank that has filed legal briefs to defend Trump in several of the criminal cases filed against him, including one which claimed that Special Counsel Jack Smith was unlawfully appointed. In 2013, she declined to join forces with New York to investigate Trump's for-profit college Trump University after a political action committee supporting her re-election received a $25,000 donation from the Trump Foundation. She later denied any connection between the donation and her decision not to pursue Trump University. Noah Bookbinder, a former federal prosecutor at the Justice Department's Public Integrity Section who now serves as president of the nonprofit Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, said Bondi will need to show that her history of advocacy for Trump will not influence how she leads the department. "She is someone who comes in potentially thinking of her role as advocating for Donald Trump. That's not what the attorney general of the United States does," he said. "She does have a burden to show the Senate and to show the people that she understands that." Despite Bondi's long history of supporting Trump, some of those familiar with her time as Florida attorney general say she has also been known to reach across the aisle and work alongside political rivals. In 2011, for instance, Bondi tapped Democrat Dave Aronberg to serve as the state's drug czar to help prosecute prescription drug trafficking. She tapped him after he lost in his primary bid for her job as attorney general. The coordinating mechanism is part of the programme of the UN office for parliamentary participation in the prevention and combatting of terrorism, operating since 2021. Superman said the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean was closely following developments in the region and expressed concern over the escalating crisis. She added that the relationship between terrorism and organised crime was exacerbated by the exploitation of criminal networks by terrorist groups. Let us know! This Sunday, thousands of people will gather to watch the reenactment of George Washington’s Christmas night crossing of the Delaware River. The Continental Army’s advance across the river into New Jersey, rendered in the famous painting “Washington Crossing the Delaware,” by German artist Emanuel Leutze, was a turning point in the Revolutionary War and the country’s history. “Washington is losing, a string of defeats, and then he’ll come here, he’ll plan this daring attack on Trenton, and he will end up being victorious, despite many obstacles and changes in plans that’ll take place,” said Jennifer Martin, executive director of The Friends of Washington Crossing Historic Park. “And after the crossing, he’ll go on to win two battles at Trenton, one at Princeton. In 10 days, he will be victorious, and he will make the men and our country believe that they can actually win.” Since 1953, the dramatic event has been commemorated at Washington Crossing, in Bucks County. In those early years, it was “living theater,” Martin said, with some unexpected connections to Hollywood: The second actor to play George Washington was Grace Kelly’s brother, John Kelly Jr., an Olympic rower . Eventually, the theater gave way to a more traditional reenactment, which is now meticulously prepared and carried out by around 300 reenactment participants. Attention to detail is key in bringing the reenactment to life, Martin said. The uniforms worn by the members of the Continental Army are historically accurate, and in recent years, organizers have served a meal to reenactment participants that would have been typical of the time period. Martin said this year will also feature some actors on horseback, portraying the mounted militia, and women actors will dress up as nurses and follow the army. Some do first-person interpretation, meaning they portray an actual person who fought in the war. Murphy and others aren’t “in character” representing a specific person, but they stay within the world of the 18th century in conversation and in their behavior as long as the public is around. “We make sure our uniforms, our behavior, our muskets, whatever we wear and carry with us, research has been done to show that these are things that the continental soldiers in the 18th century would have carried and worn,” he said. The historic village onsite will include the traditional bakery, Half Crown Bakehouse , and feature a blacksmith workshop, as well as blacksmithing demonstrations. (Courtesy of The Friends of Washington Crossing Park) “For us, history has to come to life,” Martin said. “These were real people, and we want to bring these stories to life in a way that’s very immersive and resonates with many different audiences, and that’s why we’re so interested in trying to create diverse interpretation in all different aspects, both military and civilian, to draw people in to get a more comprehensive understanding of what took place here, Christmas night, 1776, and how, not just the generals again, but average people lived.” Although many of the thousands who attend the reenactment and the park’s annual 800,000 visitors come from across the country and throughout the world, the park and the reenactment have an important significance to local residents in Bucks County. For Murphy, being a reenactor is rewarding because of his roots in the region. “I really like the connections of the history of the town that I grew up in, and the places that I knew when I was growing up, and how the events that took place here are where I grew up,” he said. “And I know all the names of the towns and the people and the things, and that’s a really special part of it, to be able to give back to your community that you grew up in by learning about this and sharing it.” Martin also grew up nearby in Princeton, New Jersey, where her love of Revolutionary War history was sparked on Princeton Battlefield. She can recall seeing the reenactment from the Jersey side of the river as a child. Many of the attendees are also from the surrounding area and have grown up seeing the reenactment and celebrating that part of their history, she said. “I think that for people in this community, they’re really proud to live somewhere that has this national recognition,” Martin said, noting that the influx of out-of-town visitors also has a “positive impact on the local economy.” Actors represent soldiers in the Revolutionary War. But also the thing that I’m most passionate about, being a member of this community, is creating a space in this community, for our community, to celebrate their history.” The reenactment on Sunday, Dec. 8, will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the actual crossing reenactment taking place at 1 p.m. Tickets are $9 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-11, and children under 5 are free.
