Political slugfest has erupted in Telangana hours after a Hyderabad court granted bail to six people, who were arrested for allegedly vandalising the residence of Telugu actor Allu Arjun. The actor was summoned by police for questioning on Tuesday. On Sunday, a group of unknown people, supposedly belonging to Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC), attacked the Jubilee Hills residence of Allu Arjun demanding huge monetary compensation to the family of a woman who died in the Sandhya Theatre stampede incident during the screening of his latest film Pushpa2: The Rule. While the police did not disclose their political affiliation, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) spokesperson Manne Krishank alleged that one of the accused, Reddy Srinivas, was a close aide of chief minister Revanth Reddy. Sharing the purported photographs of Srinivas with the chief minister on X, Krishank pointed out that Srinivas was the Congress candidate for the zilla parishad territorial constituency (ZPTC) from Kodangal in the 2019 local body elections. “OUJAC started the great Telangana Agitation in 2009. Using it for Violence and blackmail is disgusting”, Krishnak posted on X, adding, “Reddy Srinivas who attacked Allu Arjun residence is not a student leader of Osmania University but a close aide of CM Revanth & Kodangal Congress Candidate of 2019 ZPTC Poll.” The Congress, however, did not respond to the allegation, but the chief minister strongly condemned the attack by some miscreants on the house of Allu Arjun on Sunday. “I have instructed the director general of police and Hyderabad police commissioner to act tough against those who were disturbing the law and order. There is no question of tolerating such incidents,” he said. State cinematography minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy took to X condemning the vandalism at Allu Arjun’s residence. “There is no place for violence and physical attacks in democracy. Nobody should take law into their hands,” he said. After the arrest of Allu Arjun by the Chikkadpally police on December 13, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said the arrest of the National Award-winning star was the pinnacle of insecurity of the rulers. “I totally sympathise with the victims of the stampede but who failed really? Treating @alluarjun Garu as a common criminal is uncalled for especially for something he isn’t directly responsible,” KTR said in a post on X. At a party meeting, KTR also alleged that Revanth Reddy got Allu Arjun arrested just because the latter had forgotten the chief minister’s name for a second at the success meet of Pushpa2: The Rule. BJP leader and Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay said the actor deserved a better treatment. He said: “The national award-winning actor was “lifted straight from his bedroom” without even being given time to change. It is a “disgraceful act of mismanagement and disrespect. A star of his stature, who brought global recognition to Indian cinema, deserved better treatment.” BJP national leader Amit Malviya called the action against Allu Arjun a “state-sponsored terrorism and said “the actor was targeted for refusing to campaign for the Congress.” Political analyst Rama Krishna Sangem, however, differed with this view. He said it was the chief minister who had given permission for the benefit show, additional screenings and increased ticket price for Pushpa2: The Rule. “But Revanth Reddy should have dealt with the avoidable tragedy as per law, leaving it entirely to cops and courts, rather than making public statements against film stars and filmmakers inside and outside the assembly. His open aggression in the present issue led to the political slugfest,” Sangem said. Tollywood tries for reconciliation The prominent figures from the Telugu film industry have announced their plan to meet the chief minister shortly and resolve the issue in an amicable manner. “We shall meet the chief minister after the return of prominent producer and Telangana film development corporation chairman Dil Raju returns from his US trip,” producer Naga Vamsi told reporters on Monday. A comedian of Tollywood said, on condition of anonymity, that Revanth Reddy must be under the impression that the Telugu film industry had maintained good relations with the previous BRS government and many celebrities were close friends of KTR. “I am not sure, but that could be one of the reasons for Revanth Reddy’s antipathy towards Tollywood,” he said. What has disturbed the Tollywood more than the Allu Arjun episode was Revanth Reddy’s announcement that there would be no permission for benefit shows, additional screenings or hike in ticket price. With major hero films lined up for release during Sankranti, the government’s stance has become a critical issue, as Telangana, including Hyderabad, is a key market for Telugu cinema. “We shall discuss the issue of ticket prices, premiere shows and additional shows with the chief minister,” Naga Vamsi said. Among the big-ticket films which are slated for release on Sankranti festival, considered to be very auspicious for film makers, are: Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan’s Game Changer, Nandamuri Balakrishna-starrer Daku Maharaj and Venkatesh-starrer Sankranthi ki Vastunnam. “Most of these high-budget films try to make quick money within the first three or four days by screening benefit shows, additional shows and increased ticket prices. Since Telangana is a big market for Tollywood, the film makers do not get into confrontation with the government,” said Venkat Reddy, who runs a popular film website. Mythri Movie Makers, which produced Pushpa2: The Rule, announced ex gratia of ₹ 50 lakh to the family of M Revathi, who died due to asphyxiation in the Sandhya Theatre stampede incident. Promoter of the firm Naveen Yerneni went to the hospital where her son is undergoing treatment on Monday and handed over the cheque to Revathi’s husband, Bhaskar.BERKELEY — Berkeley is taking another step in its goal to “Keep Innovation in Berkeley” through a change in zoning laws that is meant to encourage companies conducting research and development to find a lasting home in the city. The Berkeley City Council voted Tuesday to permit labs studying biosafety levels 2 in mixed-use light industrial zoning areas while prohibiting level 3 and 4 uses in all parts of the city. A biosafety level 1 rating is given to labs that study toxins or agents not known to cause diseases in healthy adults, while level 2 has a moderate risk, . Biosafety level 3 and 4 labs study agents that pose a greater risk to the public and are subject to stricter safety precautions. The approval, which includes a reduction in parking requirements, also calls for clearly stating that research and development labs are permitted in Berkeley’s mixed manufacturing district. Research and development labs under 20,000 square feet will be permitted with an administratively approved zoning certificate in areas around U.C. Berkeley, including the University Avenue commercial corridor, North Shattuck Avenue, Telegraph Avenue and downtown. Spaces larger than 20,000 square feet would need an administrative use permit which would require a public review process. Of the city’s top 25 employers, six conduct research and development in various areas including biotechnology, climate technology and sound equipment manufacturing. More than 400 innovation sector businesses currently operate in Berkeley, . “We’re really lucky we have such a diverse economy,” said Elizabeth Redman Cleveland, chief strategist of sustainable growth with the city’s Office of Economic Development, during the council meeting Tuesday. “It’s really exciting to have so much innovation in our city.” Tuesday’s decision completes a referral put forward by former Councilmember Rigel Robinson and adopted by the council in September 2022. Zoning changes are just the latest effort by Berkeley councilmembers to encourage growth of the city’s innovation sector. In November, on government grants given to small research and development businesses to also include grants from philanthropic groups. Under the changes, companies with no more than $100,000 in gross receipts qualify for the exemption, which now applies to all grant amounts instead of just the first $1 million received. Over the last five years, about $45,000 in tax breaks were given out to 21 businesses that qualified for the initial exemption with staff asserting the expanded exemption would result in nominal financial losses to the city. Meanwhile, the amended zoning regulations could possibly lead to a modest increase in business license and sales tax revenue while also reducing city expenditures on staff time, according to a staff report. “It’s important to realize that Washington (D.C.) is going to upend our economy of the state and the city,” Councilmember Ben Bartett said. “It kind of behooves us to do all we can to strengthen our economy right now as soon as possible.” While supportive of the measure, Councilmember Ben Bartlett stressed the importance of adequate oversight, especially given that a due to a staffing shortage. Cleveland assured the council that there are numerous oversight agencies, including the city’s Toxics Management Team. Councilmembers lauded the proposal as a common sense approach to retaining innovative businesses and shared confidence in the city’s ability to prevent and respond to any threats. “I want to reassure folks anyway,” Councilmember Mark Humbert said. “It may sound glib, but I think it’s actually fair to say a restaurant with poor safety poses more of a risk than a lab working with BSL 1 and 2 agents.”

Posted by Horseed Staff According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, around 10:00 AM local time, the attack targeted three key locations that housed the Somalia’s National Army The Federal Government of Somalia has strongly condemned a surprise attack by Ethiopian forces in Doolow town, Gedo region, describing it as a grave violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and international agreements. According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, around 10:00 AM local time, the attack targeted three key locations that housed the Somali National Army, National Intelligence Service (NISA), and police forces; the number of Somali security personnel and civilians killed in the attack has not been made public. The incident comes at a particularly sensitive time, as a high-level Somali delegation led by Minister of State Ali Omar was scheduled to arrive in Addis Ababa the same day to strengthen bilateral ties under the framework of the recent Ankara Declaration. “This is a clear violation of the Ankara Agreement, the African Union Charter, the United Nations regulations, and the practice of good neighborliness,” the Somali foreign ministry stated in a strongly worded press release. The ministry warned that it “will not remain silent about these blatant steps that violate Somalia’s sovereignty.” Somalia’s internal political dynamics are making everything more complicated. The federal government in Mogadishu has been at odds with the Jubaland regional state, which is in charge of Doolow, which is located in the Gedo area. Currently, Jubaland Vice President Mahmoud Adam Sayid resides in the town. The Jubaland regional government, on the other hand, said in a press statement that Jubaland positions in Dolow were severely damaged by an attack by Somali federal forces. They declared that Dolow is still firmly under their hands and said that Jubaland soldiers have effectively repelled the attack.French President Emmanuel Macron’s office has announced a new government, after the previous Cabinet collapsed in a historic vote prompted by fighting over the country’s budget. Newly named Prime Minister Francois Bayrou put together the government that includes members of the outgoing conservative-dominated team and some new figures from centrist or left-leaning backgrounds. Coming up with a 2025 budget will be the most urgent order of business. The new government enters office after months of political deadlock and pressure from financial markets to reduce France’s colossal debt. Mr Macron has vowed to remain in office until his term ends in 2027, but has struggled to govern since snap elections in the summer left no single party with a majority in the National Assembly. Since his appointment 10 days ago, Mr Bayrou has held talks with political leaders from various parties in search of the right balance for the new government. Some critics were angry at Mr Bayrou for consulting with Marine Le Pen’s far-right party, and some argue the government looks too much like the old one to win the trust of politicians. Former prime minister Michel Barnier resigned this month following a no-confidence vote prompted by budget disputes in the National Assembly, leaving France without a functioning government. Ms Le Pen played a key role in Mr Barnier’s downfall by joining her National Rally party’s forces with the left to pass the no-confidence motion. Mr Bayrou will need support from moderate legislators on the right and left to keep his government alive. Banker Eric Lombard will be finance minister, a crucial post when France is working to fulfil its promises to European Union partners to reduce its deficit, estimated to reach 6% of its gross domestic product this year. Mr Lombard briefly worked as an adviser to a socialist finance minister in the 1990s. Mr Bayrou has said he supports tax hikes championed by his predecessor, but it is not clear how the new government can find the right calculation for a budget that satisfies a majority of politicians angry over spending cuts. Bruno Retailleau stays on as interior minister, with responsibility for France’s security and migration policy. Sebastien Lecornu, who has been at the forefront of France’s military support for Ukraine, remains defence minister, while foreign minister Jean-Noel Barrot, who has travelled extensively in the Middle East in recent weeks, also retains his post. Among the new faces are two former prime ministers. Manuel Valls will be minister for overseas affairs, and Elisabeth Borne takes the education ministry.Grand Opening of the Rees Jones "Woods" golf course announced at Boca Woods Country Club
